, joe biden was really kind of the leading drug warrior in the senate, both republican and democratic. and that kind of took the issue off the table and instead of there being a debate about it, it was who was tougher. who could get more, you know, who could rough more people up, who could be more in favor of more police on the streets who would give them more military-grade weapons -- >> longer sentences. >> exactly. >> this is the thing, this is the key truth, ryan, if an issue in washington is not being debated by democrats and republicans, it ceases to exist. no matter how much effect it has on lives of millions of americans. msnbc contributor ryan grim. thank you so much. >> thank you. >>> our latest installment of "i see you politician who's trying to get away with something" features the governor of new jersey. chris christie. who spent the past few days probably hoping no one noticed what he did on friday night and everyone noticed what he did on monday morning. that's coming up. your business. so, if you're sleeping in your contact lenses, ask about the air optix® contacts s

of the 2016 campaign. >> when we talk about that and i know you've been following joe biden, not going into the night quietly so to speak. there my be certainly interest from him about whether or not he is going to make a go for 2016. does that all depend on what hillary clinton wants to do? >> well, it's not so clear. there was an article in "the wall street journal" just yesterday which suggested that biden's close advisers have determined he could win in a face-off with hillary clinton in a democratic primary. you know, perhaps there is some, you know, behind the scenes jockying going on. but i think what it points to and the reason all of this is starting so early is in the autopsies of the mitt romney campaign, people felt that he had a decided disadvantage against president obama because he didn't have enough time -- did not have enough time to get a campaign apparatus up and running. republicans are doing that and i think on the same side, you're seeing democrats starting to do that. i think to run what is in excess of a billion dollar operation, to run for president, you have t

with susan rice, samantha power, the new u.s./u.n. ambassador, joe biden, john brennan, martin dempsey, the inner circle, called the situation troublesome. the options are limited. i think folks are saying cruise missiles from nearby navy ships may be one lead option. but in terms of will and political power to do something and political sort of -- any kind of impetus from -- to do something, i'm not clear that the president really has much in the wheelhouse in terms of being able to call on some sort of outrage from the american public, though i think as an american the situation over there is outrageous and untenable. >> right. he doesn't. i think the latest poll had something like 7% of people wanting to get involved with this, which is, of course, a legacy of iraq. the evidence that we might be inching towards something like that, is that the talk about how reluctant we are to do it is increasing. whenever we're sharing with the world how reluctant we are to attack something, you know, you can pretty much count on it, we're going to attack something pretty soon. we've been reluctan
